Air Conditioner Cycling Program

Earn credits of $10/month on your summer energy bills by enrolling in NIPSCO's AC Cycling Program. This voluntary program saves energy, which in turn saves you money and helps manage the demand for electricity during peak usage periods.

How the program works

After enrollment, a smart switch will be installed near your air conditioner on the outside of your home. Installation may take up to 30-45 days, depending on the time of year and number of customers who have signed up for the program. The switch will allow us to cycle the AC on and off, so it uses less power when electric demand is highest (from June - September).

Your AC will be safely cycled for brief intervals during times of peak demand (no more than 6 hours) typically between 12 and 7 p.m. Cycling will not occur on weekends. Your fan stays on to circulate already cooled air to keep your home comfortable.

Do I qualify?

To enroll you must:

  • Be a NIPSCO Electric Customer.
  • Have a functional air conditioning unit sized at 5 tons or less.
  • Own a single family home. (If you do not own your home, but live in a separately metered single-family residence with central AC, you can participate with your landlord’s consent.)

When will I receive the incentive?

Once the switch is installed, you will receive a credit on your monthly bill every month from June through September. If you sign up for the program after June, your credit will be prorated based on the remaining days and months in your billing cycle during the June-September program time frame.
