Enterprise by Design in Steuben County

Friday, April 10, 2015

The Center will be located in an empty Angola industrial complex consisting of five buildings offering a combined total of 50,000 sq. ft. of space. The Center would offer facilities that would serve county residents, entrepreneurial ventures and existing businesses.

“Everybody that has walked through the complex has shared the vision that we have for this facility—a center for Steuben County where resources can come together to support workforce development and small business development,” said Dave Koenig, SCEDC Executive Director. “This is not a new concept, but our plan brings together more activities than might otherwise be housed in such a facility.”

According to the current plan, the Center would consist of:

  • A traditional business incubator where new businesses can rent space and access supportive regional resources
  • A co-working space for members to connect with each other and collaborate on projects
  • A technical training space of over 8,000 sq. ft. for industrial workers of all types (welders, machinists, etc.)
  • An additional 3,000 sq. ft. of classroom space
  • Office spaces for the SCEDC and other related organizations so there is easy access and strong interconnectivity between groups’ activities

Most recently, the Fort Wayne firm Design Collaborative has prepared preliminary designs for the properties at 901, 903 and 907 South Wayne Street in Angola. Funding options are currently being considered.
