Groundbreakers: Carroll and Lake Counties See New Construction

Monday, August 31, 2015

In Carroll County, Carroll White REMC, an energy cooperative, held a groundbreaking ceremony for their new construction within the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Park. The company’s member services and operations center will move from Delphi, IN to this new 40,000 sq. ft. facility once it is completed. Construction is expected to be finished by the end of the fourth quarter of this year.

Carroll County Economic Development Corporation Executive Director Laura Wallssays this is a major step for her organization in the park’s development. The business agreed, with CEO Randy W. Price saying that, “Carroll White REMC is proud to be an anchor business in the Hoosier Heartland Industrial Park.” According to Price, the park is centrally located for their south service area and moving operations there will allow the company to perform more efficiently.

The Carroll County EDC will also be moving its operations into the office space along with the REMC.

In Lake County, City of Hobart representatives and executives from the industrial business park owner/developer Becknell Industrial broke ground for a speculative building atNorthWind Crossings in Hobart, IN.

The 159,813 sq. ft. distribution/manufacturing building is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2016. The structure will be adjacent to the I-65 interchange and 61st avenue, putting it just 25 miles from Chicago with the easiest highway access possible. The building will feature 28 ft. clear heights and 14 truck level loading positions, along with many other features and possible expansions to suit its intended future use.

“We have been fortunate as a company to have significant growth opportunity and based on this growth, we began exploring the necessity of adding additional buildings on our master plan [for the NorthWind Crossings park],” said Becknell Assistant Vice President Matt HubartKaren Lauerman, president and CEO of the Lake County IN Economic Alliance, says her organization is pleased with the investment Becknell is making in the community. “It’s as new opportunity to promote our area ultimately bringing jobs and investment to the region,” Lauerman said.
