Familiar Faces in New Places

Tuesday, November 03, 2015

In St. Joseph County, the county commissioners selected Bill Schalliol to fill the newly-created position of economic development director. Schalliol worked in planning and economic development roles for the city of South Bend while completing his degree in law at Valparaiso University, which he received in 2012. Since then he has worked as a deputy prosecutor but has left that position to accept this new role with the county’s chamber of commerce. Commission president Andy Kostielney, who announced the creation of the job in March, said it was long overdue that the county had someone in this position.

The NWI Times announced its “20 Under 40” awards, and among the many people deserving recognition for their work were Christopher Smith of NiSource/NIPSCO and Matt Saltanovitz of the Northwest Indiana Forum. Christopher Smith is the vice president of Human Resources at NiSource/NIPSCO, located in Merrillville. Smith says he “enjoys helping people develop and helping leaders problem-solve.” In Portage, Matt Satanovitz demonstrates a commitment to his community as a one-time Times employee who has now moved on to be the economic development director for the Northwest Indiana Forum. Congratulations to both of you!
