Leaders Shine at NIPSCO’s Annual Luminary Awards

Tuesday, November 03, 2015
The Luminary Awards, inspired by NIPSCO’s 100 year anniversary celebration in 2012, recognize leaders in five key areas: education, community leadership, economic development, public safety and environmental stewardship.

“The Luminary Awards were created to recognize those individuals and organizations that have truly helped light the way for others to follow,” NIPSCO Executive Vice President Violet Sistovaris told the audience at the ceremony.

The 2015 Luminary Award recipients are:
•Community Leadership Award: Gary Mayor Karen Freeman-Wilson
•Education Award: Starke County Initiative for Lifelong Learning (SCILL)
•Environmental Stewardship Award: Porter County Career and Technical Center
•Economic Development Award: Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership
•Public Safety Award: Tri-Town Safety Village

Along with the award, NIPSCO also makes a $1000 contribution to each award winner’s selected charity.

The Starke County Initiative for Lifelong Learning (SCILL), which won the award in the area of education, has worked since 1996 to meet the needs of area industries and fill in the training gap between students and careers in the fundamental fields of automotive and welding work. SCILL serves ten schools and has a record enrollment of 71 high school juniors and seniors.

Congratulations to all the award winners, and thank you for continuing to strive for excellence across northern Indiana!
