Don Babcock: a catalyst for change

Tuesday, March 01, 2016

Babcock serves on over a dozen boards including the Economic Development Corporation of Michigan City, the Northwest Indiana Forum, the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corporation (GLEDC), MCNEAT, Michigan City NOW, Boys and Girls Club, and the Society of Innovators. In addition, he was elected president of the Michigan City Redevelopment Commission. He’s also very involved with the Art Space loft development in the former Warren Building.

In recognition of all he does for the community, Babcock was awarded the Paul J. Alinsky Excellence Award – an annual honor presented by the Rotary Club of Michigan City.

Babcock truly lives his life by a few simple quotes like “It’s not about me, it’s about we,” and Daniel Burnham’s famous “Make no little plans” philosophy. And adding to the list of quotes that guide his life, Babcock relayed the words of Margaret Meade, saying, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.” And he is.
