Indiana Cities among Nation’s Manufacturing Leaders

Atlanta-based Garner Economics used data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics as well as the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis to compile their list. According to the report, the Indianapolis/Carmel/Anderson MSA ranked 13th out of 381 MSAs analyzed nationwide, generating $285,771 in Gross Regional Product contribution per manufacturing job, which indicates exceptional productivity.

“While companies can manufacture products almost anywhere, productivity matters when it comes to profitability,” said Greg Wathen, president and CEO for the Economic Development Coalition of Southwest Indiana. Wathen’s territory covers Evansville, IN, which ranked 28th in the nation.

Northern Indiana was represented as well, including:

  • South Bend/Mishawaka – 100th
  • Michigan City/La Porte – 156th
  • Fort Wayne – 274th
  • Kokomo – 331st
  • Elkhart/Goshen – 342nd
