Digital Manufacturing Education Coming to Whitley County

Friday, July 15, 2016

Purdue University and the Whitley County Economic Development Corporation have partnered to create a digital manufacturing education program.

“As the U.S. and Indiana manufacturing base moves forward into the future, the digitization of manufacturing data and processes will be a key enable of future growth and profitability,” said Nathan Hartman, associate head of computer graphics technology at Purdue Polytechnic Institute. Hartman says that being able to leverage these new technologies and processes will be key to companies being able to maintain their competitive advantage.

The partnership will survey local manufacturing businesses to evaluate their needs so that the educational program can be customized to match with the needs of Whitley County. Whitley EDC has already held a meeting of local business owners, the Purdue Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the Indiana Next Generation Manufacturing Competitiveness Center. Involved businesses will also eventually be able to receive assistance from the partnership in adopting digital manufacturing technologies.
