Partnership to Bring Industrial Park to Gary

Thursday, October 06, 2016

The City of Gary and Garmong Development Co, LLC, along with other partners, have joined together on a deal to create an industrial complex including multiple spec buildings in the city.

“Multiple companies have moved from Illinois to Gary,” Gary Economic Development Corporation director Bo Kemp said. “There is greater interest in moving to Gary than there has been in a long time. Previously, when companies wanted to move to Gary, we didn’t have anything to show them. Now, with this Garmong building, we will.”

The project, situated on a 25.8-acre site at what used to be the Ivanhoe Gardens Housing Project, will have as many as four spec buildings to form what the partnership is calling the Northwest Indiana Industrial Complex.

Phase one of the project consists of the construction of a sole 75,000 sq. ft. building. Garmong Development Co. will provide the financing for this building, estimated at approximately $4 million. An additional 75,000 sq. ft. building and two 68,750 sq. ft. buildings are planned to be added to the site over time.

“It is Garmong’s belief that our investment and interest in Gary will encourage other firms to invest in the community as well, said Vice President of Garmong Construction Services Dan Zuerner.

Although still in very early stages, the project is now well underway with this new approval by the Gary Redevelopment Commission for a memorandum of understanding for the project.
