Monday, September 25, 2017

In this issue, Africa Tarver is promoted in Hammond, Anne Anderson takes over Tarver’s old role, Mark Krentz takes over as La Porte’s new mayor, Kathy DeGuilio-Fox is hired as Highland’s new redevelopment director and DWD Commissioner Steve Braun is retiring.

Africa Tarver, who has been Hammond’s Director of Economic Development, has been promoted to Executive Director of Planning and Development for the city. Tarver has been employed in various roles with the city for the last 16 years. In this new position, Tarver has also been named to the board of the Northwest Indiana Regional Development Authority for the remaining term of Philip Taillon, who resigned from that seat once he was named as Hammond Mayor McDermott Jr.’s chief of staff.

With Tarver moving up, Anne Anderson will be taking over as Hammond’s Director of Economic Development, conducting business visits to promote retention and expansion and working to create a health business climate in the City of Hammond. Anne has worked for the city since 2013.

Mark Krentz is the new mayor of the City of La Porte, filling the role vacated by Blair Milo following Milo’s appointment as the state’s Secretary of Career Connections and Talent. Krentz will finish out the two and a half years remaining in the term. Most recently, Krentz worked as the talent attraction coordinator with the Greater La Porte Economic Development Corp.

Kathy DeGuilio-Fox has been named the town of Highland’s new redevelopment director, following the retirement of Cecile Petro, who has held that position for the last 12 years. DeGuilio-Fox previously was a redevelopment commissioner for over 20 years, serving multiple times as president.

Steve Braun, the commissioner of the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, has announced his resignation after three years in that role. No reason was given, though the governor’s spokesperson hinted that the reason for Braun’s resignation would soon be revealed. Regina Ashley has been appointed interim commissioner.
