As Northern Indiana continues to grow with new businesses and expanding businesses, a growing priority is having attractive, available housing to meet the needs of the new workers and their families. To meet growing current needs and plan for the future, communities are building new housing options. The latest among these are:

Elkhart, IN

Stonewater at the Riverwalk (

  • $32 million mixed-use development broke ground in September
  • Located at the former Elkhart Foundry site and includes nearly 240,000 sq. ft.
  • Once completed, the development will include over 200 luxury apartments as well as retail space
  • Construction expected to be completed by spring 2019

Fort Wayne, IN

Bottle Works Lofts (

  • $14.5 million development broke ground in September
  • Project will rehabilitate the former Coca-Cola bottling plant into 31 affordable rental units and 19 lease-to-purchase single-family homes
  • Additionally, the project will feature a community room, business center, media room, fitness center, indoor and outdoor playgrounds and on-site management.
  • The homes are planned for completion by fall 2018 while the rental units are expected to be complete by the end of 2019

Kokomo, IN

306 Riverfront District (

  • $32 million mixed-use development of the former Apperson Brothers factory turning the property into a luxury apartment community
  • Three separate buildings will be opened at different times, with the first opening February 1st, 2018
  • The first building to open features 73 units as well as most of the amenities for the property. The next building includes 70 units and commercial space. The 3rd building contains 56 units and a sky deck
  • Property includes 6,800 sq. ft. of amenities such as heated pool, deck and courtyard, fire pit, outdoor kitchen and dining area and decorative lighting and landscaping

The Grove on Mulberry (

  • $1.6 million townhome development
  • Includes eight detached, three-story homes for purchase
  • Kokomo Mayor Goodnight says the development will repurpose an underutilized site in an important thoroughfare of the city
  • Construction set to begin late 2017

Mishawaka, IN

The Mill at Ironworks Plaza (

  • $45 million mixed-use development
  • Project will include 230 luxury, market-rate apartments and 13,000 sq. ft. of retail space
  • Amenities include deck and bar, lounge areas, grilling station and activity lawn and maker’s space
  • Expected completion date is summer 2019
