NWI Women Honored at Annual Awards Event

Late September saw over 700 people attend the annual Influential Women of Northwest Indiana awards banquet to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the region’s female leaders.

Influential Women of Northwest Indiana recognizes the region’s most successful women professionals in all areas of business, industry and community service. This exclusive event honors both established leaders and up-and-coming women in 10 industries in Northwest Indiana, as well as companies that have demonstrated outstanding support for women.

Congratulations to all those recognized, and thank you for all that you contribute to the region!

This year, the winners of the Economic Development and Government category are:

Influential Woman: Rachel Oesterreich, office manager for the Starke County Highway Department

Up & Coming: Stephanie Kuziela, Clerk-Treasurer for the town of Chesterton since 2014

In the Construction category, congratulations to Up & Coming winner Aida Haigh, Operations Analysis Engineer for NiSource Inc. This year, Haigh developed a tool to forecast natural gas loads. Her model exceeds industry standards and can predict gas loads within a 3 percent model error.

The Community Leader of the Year is Karen Maravilla, owner of It’s Just Serendipity, a Hammond antique store which opened its second location this year.
