Corporate Flight Center Takes Off at Gary Airport

Thursday, November 30, 2017

In late October, the Gary Jet Center opened its brand new Corporate Flight Center at the Gary/Chicago International Airport with vendors, customers and state officials on hand for the celebration.

The Gary Jet Center considers the $3 million, 8,300 square foot building the “final step” in a 12-year long series of major projects to transform the offerings at the airport and allow for substantial economic opportunities in the future. Other projects included a larger hangars, an extended main runway and numerous other additions or improvements.

Indiana Economic Development Corporation Senior Vice President Rollie Helmling was on hand at the event and discussed the important role the new terminal can have in meeting the needs of increasing domestic and international corporate activity in the area

The new facility is located at the Gary Jet Center’s Fixed Base Operation and includes a modern glass-walled, 45-seat lobby, pilot and crew lounges, a conference center and a business center along with sleeping rooms and kitchen facilities. “We feel very strongly our mission is to continue to grow the Chicago aviation base,” said Gary Jet Center President Lynn Eplawy. According to Eplawy, the new building and its amenities are the difference between a “routine and the expected” and “first-class” experience for corporate and other aviation customers.  With this project completed, the company hopes to attract more targeted markets.

According to Lake County Economic Alliance CEO Karen Lauerman, these changes at the airport are important to the region’s economic outlook since commitment from the Gary Jet Center “further sets the stage when attracting companies and jobs to our area.”
