LaPorteHospitalIn La Porte, officials broke ground for a new hospital in the city’s downtown area. The La Porte Hospital represents a $125 million investment. The new facility replaces another hospital which opened in 1972. According to the hospital, remodeling the current facility would have cost nearly as much as building the new one, but the new hospital will serve more patients and will include full-service care with everything from inpatient surgery to birthing and orthopedic functions. The new hospital is expected to open in 2020.


 Hammond Bio ScienceIn Hammond, Purdue University Northwest broke ground on a new Bioscience Innovation Building. The new 68,000 sq. ft. structure will house both the nursing and biological sciences departments and is expected to be in use by May 2020.





Kokomo Ivy TechIn Kokomo, Ivy Tech Community College broke ground on an 18-month, $43 million campus transformation project. The school says the project will centralize classroom and training space which has become scattered across the city as the school grew. Ivy Tech President Sue Ellspermann said that the plan is to create a better college campus feel and that this project will make that possible, “providing an environment that will attract students and support their success.”


Kokomo WaterAlso in Kokomo, Indiana American Water broke ground on an $11 million investment in a new facility to upgrade its water treatment process and improve the area’s water quality by adding ultraviolet disinfection to the existing treatment process. The project will be complete by the end of 2019.





Wyndham Garden OpenIn Fort Wayne, the Wyndham Garden hotel has now re-opened. Closed three years ago after a fire, owner Namou Hotel Group has completed a $6 million renovation and is now able to open its doors again.

While the Wyndham Garden re-opens, Fort Wayne is also celebrating the opening of a brand new structure, the 12-story, $42 million Skyline Tower. With 123 apartment units, the majority pre-leased, a Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse and the regional headquarters for First Merchants Corp., the tower will be buzzing with activity immediately.
