Indiana Advancing: IEDC Reports Another Record-Setting Year of Growth

Thursday, December 20, 2018

The Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC) has announced that 2018 was another record-setting year for the state in terms of job commitments.

As the state’s lead economic development agency, the IEDC reports it received commitments from 320 businesses in 2018 with a combined total investment of $7.38 billion, either towards relocating to Indiana or for expanding in the state. Along with that planned investment came commitments to the state for 31,112 new jobs, up from last year’s 30,158 commitments and the highest annual commitment in IEDC history.

Average wages of those commitments is $26.84 an hour, which is over 20 percent above the state’s average hourly wage. Of the 320 businesses, 47 are foreign companies opening operations or expanding operations in Indiana representing $3.2 billion in investment.

“I’m thrilled to announce back-to-back record years for new job commitments as we work every day to ensure that more Hoosiers have the opportunity to grow and thrive here in Indiana,” said Governor Holcomb.
