Michigan City Adds Acres to its Area

In December, Michigan City, IN annexed 426 acres located near U.S. 20 and Interstate 94.

Economic Development Corporation Michigan City Executive Director Clarence Hulse called the annexed area “geographically perfect,” saying it will suit the types of businesses that do well in Michigan City. “In the past, we might have had to turn away prospective companies away from growth and expansion because we just weren’t ready with available land. But now, we can use this acreage to market our city as a place for employers to turn their dreams into realities.”

The six separate property owners all voluntarily petitioned to be part of the city so that city utilities and services such as sewer and water would be accessible to the properties and make them more attractive to businesses looking to grow. According to the city, the land is situated near highways, rail and air transportation which makes it an ideal place for both manufacturing or logistics companies.

This annexation is a direct result of the EDCMC Strategic Action Plan created five years ago to target potential sites in the area available for further improvement.
