Natural Gas: If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, have carbon monoxide symptoms or have some other gas emergency situation, go outside and call 911 and thenour emergency number 1-800-634-3524.

Electric: For any electric emergency including a power outage or other electric-related situation, please call  1-800-464-7726. If you see a downed power line, stay away and immediately call 911 and then our emergency number.

Virtual Home Energy Assessment

Identify long-term, cost-effective energy saving opportunities

Get a Virtual Home Energy Assessment

The Virtual Home Energy Assessment option provides the opportunity for our customers to receive a Home Energy Assessment while keeping both them and our employees safe. When you schedule a no-cost Virtual Home Energy Assessment, you’re on your way to improving the comfort of your home and lowering energy bills. A professional energy advisor will take you step-by-step through the assessment to identify long-term, cost-effective energy saving opportunities.

What is needed

  • Customers will need a laptop, tablet or smartphone that have the ability to do a video call.
  • Customers can participate via phone if they have the ability to email pictures.

What to expect

  • You will be sent an invitation via email for a virtual meeting or phone call with your personal energy advisor.
  • A Virtual Home Energy Assessment usually takes 30 - 60 minutes.
  • Your energy advisor will ask a series of energy-use focused questions and gather details about different areas of your home.
  • After the meeting, your energy advisor will email you a Home Energy Report detailing the energy-saving opportunities found during the assessment.
  • Eligible* customers will receive a Home Energy Saving Kit containing energy efficient products delivered to their door.

*Customers who have received a Home Energy Savings Kit in the past 3 years will not be eligible to receive a kit

Your kit may include**:

  • LED bulbs
  • Energy efficient sink faucet aerators
  • Power outlet gaskets

**Kit contents vary based on NIPSCO account fuel type.

Do you qualify?

  • You must be an active residential customer
  • Your home must be more than 5 years old
  • You have not had a NIPSCO-sponsored energy assessment in the past 3 years
  • You have not had a NIPSCO Income Qualified Weatherization in the past 3 years
  • You have not received ab Energy Efficiency kit in the past 3 years
  • 2022 program funds are limited

If you participate in the Virtual HEA program, you will not be eligible for an in-home assessment for 1 year from the date of your virtual assessment.

If you receive a Home Energy Savings Kit after the Virtual HEA, you will not be eligible to receive another kit for 3 years.

Any cellular, internet, or other data charges incurred by you in the course of participating in the Virtual HEA are solely your responsibility, and neither NIPSCO, nor TRC, nor any of their agents assume responsibility for any costs you may incur to participate in the Virtual HEA.


Please note: All Virtual Home Energy Assessments are subject to random inspection. If selected, an inspector will contact you to ask several questions and perform a virtual verification via phone. You may be required to submit additional photographs of the service address during or after the Virtual HEA.
