Have an emergency?

Natural Gas: If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, have carbon monoxide symptoms or have some other gas emergency situation, go outside and call 911 and thenour emergency number 1-800-634-3524.

Electric: For any electric emergency including a power outage or other electric-related situation, please call  1-800-464-7726. If you see a downed power line, stay away and immediately call 911 and then our emergency number.

Shut Off and Reconnect Process

Avoid termination or get reconnected

Avoid shut off

If you received a termination notice, make a payment on your account as soon as possible to avoid shut off. You can avoid termination if we receive the past due amount on your account or proof of payment by 10 p.m. on the day before your scheduled shut off date.

Make a payment

Choose one of our simple and secure payment options to make your payment online, in person or by phone. We do not accept payment by cash or personal check at your home.

Need help paying your bill?

We know there are times when it may be difficult for you to pay your bill. We offer options to help you get back on track.

Medical certifications

We can delay shut off for up to 10 days if a licensed physician or public health official states that shut off would be a serious and immediate threat to the health or safety of a designated person in your household. This can be continued for one additional 10-day period if we receive another medical statement during a 12-month period.

Get financial support

If you're unable to pay the full amount before your scheduled shut off date, you could receive payment assistance or create a payment arrangement with us to get back on track.

Reconnection process

If your service has already been shut off for nonpayment, you need to take a few steps to receive service again:

  1. You will be required to pay the full past due balance on your account, a reconnection fee and a security deposit if we do not already have one for your account.
  2. You must ensure safe conditions in and around your home for our technician to reconnect your service, including securing animals away from our technician.
  3. An adult over the age of 18 must be present at the time of your reconnection.

Once you have paid the full required amount or can provide proof of payment, call us at 1-800-4NIPSCO (1-800-464-7726) to schedule your reconnection.
