Natural Gas: If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, have carbon monoxide symptoms or have some other gas emergency situation, go outside and call 911 and thenour emergency number 1-800-634-3524.

Electric: For any electric emergency including a power outage or other electric-related situation, please call  1-800-464-7726. If you see a downed power line, stay away and immediately call 911 and then our emergency number.

CARES Electric Summer Cooling Program

Contribute to neighbors facing financial challenges

 

The Cares Electric Summer Cooling Program provides electric customers with the option to contribute $0.25 per meter per month to a NIPSCO-sponsored program. The program provides a discount on usage from June to September to low-income customers across NIPSCO’s service area. 

A low-income customer is defined as an electric customer that is approved for the Federal Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). Your participation is voluntary, and you can opt in or withdraw from the program at any time.  Any changes to your participation will take effect the next billing cycle once your request to opt in or out of the program has been submitted.

Who is eligible to enroll?

The Rider is available to: 
 
(a) Residential and non-residential electric general service customers.
(b) Customers who are current on their electric bill and have no past due balance.

This rider is not available for customers who only have gas service.

How will I be billed?

The additional charge for participating in the Cares Electric Summer Cooling program will appear as a line item on your regular monthly NIPSCO billing statement the next bill after enrollment.

Will my rates change over time?

The Cares Electric Summer Cooling program is $0.25 per meter, per month flat rate.  Enrolled customers will be notified before a new rate takes effect.

How do I terminate this agreement?

Customers may unenroll from the program at any time by selecting "Cancel Enrollment" on the Cares Electric Summer Cooling program page. Changes will be effective as of the start of the next billing cycle.

What length of agreement/contract is required?

There is no special contract. Customers may terminate their participation at any time. The termination will take effect as of the next billing cycle.

Why was I removed if I did not elect to be removed from the program?

A customer’s bill delinquent 60 days or greater will automatically be removed from the program. Once the account returns to a non-delinquent status the customer is eligible to re-enroll into the program via https://myaccount.nipsco.com/SummerCooling or by calling 1-800-4NIPSCO (1-800-464-7726).
