Natural Gas: If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, have carbon monoxide symptoms or have some other gas emergency situation, go outside and call 911 and thenour emergency number 1-800-634-3524.

Electric: For any electric emergency including a power outage or other electric-related situation, please call  1-800-464-7726. If you see a downed power line, stay away and immediately call 911 and then our emergency number.

NIPSCO is Investing in Infrastructure

I’m Orville Cocking, Senior Vice President of Electric Operations at NIPSCO. Indiana is experiencing an exciting period of tremendous growth as new residents, businesses and industrial customers lay down roots in NIPSCO’s service area, enriching our communities and elevating our quality of life. Just as the nation’s bridges, roads, waterways and telecommunication structures are subject to long-term wear, so is the natural gas and electric system that supports our communities.   As a public utility, it is our responsibility to continue investing in our electric systems to ensure we can deliver safe and reliable service now and into the future. The infrastructure modernization plans we have underway will optimize and expand our electric systems in northern Indiana for enhanced service and overall system resilience.   We’re working on electric substation builds and rebuilds. We’re also installing new utility poles, towers and lines to bolster the existing electric system. By incorporating technological advancements into our upgrades, NIPSCO is improving the system’s reliability and resiliency, allowing for reduced outage times and a more efficient customer restoration process. Additionally, NIPSCO is highly engaged in an electric energy transition. With renewable energy sources like wind and solar along with battery storage, NIPSCO is preparing today for tomorrow’s energy needs. As we shift to more sustainable and cost-effective forms of energy for our customers, maintaining a cleaner energy mix allows us to be more flexible to keep up with the future technological advancements and market changes ahead. NIPSCO has been able to carve a path to continue delivering safe and reliable energy that drives value for our customers. NIPSCO is proud to be doing our part to ensure a brighter future for the next generation in Northern Indiana.

Call 811 before you dig

When a project requires digging, big or small, call 811 at least two business days in advance. Your local utilities will then mark their lines so you can dig safely. Understanding the location of underground utilities could prevent injury and damage to property.
