Natural Gas: If you smell gas, think you have a gas leak, have carbon monoxide symptoms or have some other gas emergency situation, go outside and call 911 and thenour emergency number 1-800-634-3524.

Electric: For any electric emergency including a power outage or other electric-related situation, please call  1-800-464-7726. If you see a downed power line, stay away and immediately call 911 and then our emergency number.

Identify long-term, cost-effective energy-saving opportunities


Schedule a Home Energy Assessment

When you schedule a no-cost Home Energy Assessment, you’re on your way to improving the comfort of your home and lowering your energy bills. A trained energy advisor will take you step-by-step through the assessment to identify long-term, cost-effective energy saving opportunities in your home.

Program funds for 2025 are limited. This program is available on a first-come, first-served basis. To learn more, call TRC at 1-800-721-7385. 

Your no-cost assessment includes:

  • A review of your home's heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system for operating efficiency
  • A custom home energy report of recommended low- and no-cost energy-saving solutions, which may reduce your energy bills after installation or implementation. (Valued at $250) 
  • Direct installation of some or all of the following products:
    • ENERGY STAR® certified LED lighting
    • Duct sealing
    • Sink faucet aerators
    • Showerheads
    • Water heater pipe wrap
    • Smart Wi-Fi-Thermostat (home must have Wi-Fi)
    • Outlet gaskets

Additional incentives on air sealing

You may receive up to $200 in instant discounts off your contractor’s invoice if your energy advisor determines your home may benefit from air sealing and meets these eligibility requirements:  

  • An initial blower door test will be performed to establish a baseline reading prior to the air seal. 
  • A second blower door test will be performed after the air seal. 
  • Your work must be performed by a licensed insulation contractor* before the end of the 2025 program year. 

Please note that this offer requires an additional appointment after the initial Home Energy Assessment.

Additional incentives on insulation

You may receive up to $700 of instant discounts off your contractor's invoice if your insulation meets these eligibility requirements:

  • Inspection of existing attic insulation level during the 2025 Home Energy Assessment is found to be R-11 or less
  • Additional attic insulation installed must increase the R-value to R-38 or greater
  • Your work is performed by a licensed insulation contractor* before the end of the 2025 program year.

What to expect

  • A Home Energy Assessment usually takes 1-2 hours.
  • The homeowner or account holder must be at least 18 years of age and remain in the home for the entire duration of the assessment.
  • The energy advisor looks at your current usage and explains additional rebate offers.
  • If you don’t own your home, you must receive written permission from the landlord or property owner before the installation of any permanent products. Use this Property Owner Authorization Form.

Do you qualify?

  • You must be a NIPSCO residential customer with active service
  • Your home must be more than five (5) years old
  • You have not had a NIPSCO-sponsored energy assessment in the past three (3) years
  • You have not had a NIPSCO Income Qualified Weatherization in the past three (3) years
  • You have not had a NIPSCO Virtual Home Energy Assessment in the last 12 months

Program Inspectors

All Home Energy Assessments are subject to inspection to confirm that energy-saving equipment is properly installed. We randomly select homes for inspection to ensure that program participants are receiving the full benefits. See our Program Inspectors.

Program Administration

NIPSCO’s residential energy efficiency programs are administered by TRC, a third-party implementation specialist that helps homes and businesses save energy.
