Starting the week of March 27, NIPSCO will begin routine maintenance work on an existing underground 16” natural gas pipeline in Fort Wayne as part of the company’s overall integrity management and system modernization plan.
To ensure the safety of on-site crew members and residents as work is being performed, a temporary road closure is expected at each location that will be in place for the full duration of work, 24 hours a day.
Starting the week of March 27, the Intersection of Airport Expressway and Bluffton Road will be closed for approximately five weeks. The detour for the Fort Wayne Airport will be at Ferguson Road.
Starting the week of April 24, the intersection of Ferguson Road and Bluffton Road will be closed for approximately three weeks. The detour for the Fort Wayne Airport will be at Ardmore Avenue.
For both project locations, please look for advanced signage with more details on the closure dates and posted detour route signs. Exercise caution when traveling around any construction zone. NIPSCO approved contractor, Graycor, will be performing
this planned work and there are no anticipated gas service interruptions as part of this project. Please note that all project schedules are dependent on weather and start/ finish dates maybe subject to change.
NIPSCO would like to remind residents of work zone safety and travel tips to follow to help ensure everyone arrives home safely in the evening.
- Please be respectful of construction crews working in the project area. Slow down and be mindful of work zones to keep crews and road users safe.
- Keep in mind that traffic lanes may have shifted in several areas throughout the project. Pay close attention to new barriers and markings on the road.
- Slow down, especially at night. Speed reductions are in effect in work zones.
- Follow directions given by flaggers and on signage.
