Small Business Direct Install (SBDI) Program
NIPSCO’s Small Business Direct Install (SBDI) Program offers incentives to NIPSCO's small business customers, who are making electric and natural gas energy efficiency improvements in existing buildings.
The program is designed to encourage energy-saving projects involving the installation of new, high-efficiency equipment or systems. The SBDI program rewards customers whose projects involve one-for-one replacement of less efficient equipment with pre-defined energy-saving technologies.
NIPSCO’s commercial, industrial and non-profit energy efficiency programs are administered by Lockheed Martin, a third-party implementation specialist that helps businesses save energy.
What Type of Projects Qualify?
Eligible projects consist of a one-for-one retrofit or replacement of existing equipment/systems with efficient equipment. Projects can include lighting, refrigeration, HVAC, steam traps and spray valves. For a full list of measures and eligibility requirements, click here. All projects must be completed by December 31, 2018 in order to be eligible for incentive.
All SBDI projects must utilize an SBDI Trade Ally. To find an SBDI Trade Ally, contact our program administrator Lockheed Martin.
Eligible NIPSCO electric customers are those served under rates 720, 721, 722 or 723, who have not had a billing demand of 200 kW or greater in any month during the previous 12 months. Eligible NIPSCO natural gas customers are those served under rates 421, 425 or 451 (NIPSCO’s DependaBill rate).
How to Apply
Step 1 – Reach Out to an Approved SBDI Trade Ally
The trade ally will conduct a walk-through of your facility identifying potential energy-saving upgrades.
*Please note, incentive levels have been updated as of November 1, 2016. Any projects submitted after November 1, 2016 will be required to use the updated incentive levels.
Step 2 – Trade Ally Installs and Completes Application
Supporting Documentation Required:
- Product Specifications of Efficient Equipment
- Project Invoices
- Tax Exempt Letter (if applicable)
Step 3 – Application Review
Applications are reviewed in the order that they are received. Complete applications are processed for review within three business days of submission.
Step 4 – Receive Incentive Payment
Incentive checks typically arrive within 6-8 weeks.
