“Thanks to the funding from the 2020 NIPSCO Environmental Action Grant, we’re helping TekVenture to creatively bring art to life,” said Dana Berkes, NIPSCO public affairs manager. “This is providing a connection to nature and bringing the importance and benefits of art and the environment to our communities.”
The grant has helped cover the cost of native plants, playground features and food for volunteers. To ensure that eco-friendliness remain front of mind, volunteers have been helping to build nearly everything out of natural and recycled materials.
Twistful Meadow has a wide variety of opportunities available for volunteers, including:
- Gardening and maintenance of the meadow’s plants and paths
- Building small structures and decorative features
- Making and operating parade puppets and costumes
- Performing as interactive characters
“I will be designing adventures that people could go on where they interact with the characters either as friends or as opponents,” said Jeannette Jaquish, Twistful Meadow project leader. “Puppets will be some of the giant characters that will be out there to interact with visitors in action adventures, and involve silly battles, twisty stories, puzzle solving and games.”
Due to an invasive thistle concern, Twistful Meadow will not be opening until spring of 2021. Until then, keep your eyes open for updates at www.ecstatic-theatrics.com/twistfulmeadow.html.
