Customers may not see their specific address on the outage map.
The outage map is intended to provide a general view of outages and restoration activity across our service territory and is not designed to display individual customer addresses.
Not seeing an address on the outage map does not mean NIPSCO is unaware of the outage.
Customers should continue to report outages and monitor restoration progress through the outage map and updates on NIPSCO.com.
Always assume a downed power line is energized and dangerous, even if you don't see a spark or flame. Never touch a downed line or anything it may be contacting, including trees, fences, vehicles or standing water.
Report downed power lines immediately by calling 911 and 1-800-4NIPSCO (1-800-464-7726).

The weatherhead is the metal cap and service entrance equipment located where NIPSCO electric service wires connect to your home.
If the weatherhead is damaged during a storm, it is the customer's responsibility to have it repaired by a licensed electrician before NIPSCO can safely reconnect electric service. Customers should never attempt to repair a damaged weatherhead themselves.
In Indiana, the weatherhead is considered customer-owned equipment because it is attached directly to the home or business and marks the point where utility responsibility ends and private property responsibility begins. Utility crews are authorized to work only on company-owned electric infrastructure and cannot perform repairs to customer-owned equipment.
Additionally, state and local electrical codes require a licensed electrician to certify that the repair is safe before service can be restored.
Once repairs are complete, NIPSCO will make every effort to restore power as quickly as possible.
We understand there may be questions about weatherhead responsibility following severe storms. However, under Indiana utility regulations and IURC-approved tariffs, repairs to service entrance equipment, including weatherheads, remain the property owner's responsibility.

It’s important you know what to do before, during and after a storm to keep you safe.
Your service line (often referred to as a weatherhead) is part of your home. If it gets damaged, you may have a responsibility to have repairs made.
We accept claims for losses from power outages caused by NIPSCO. However, storms are considered an act of nature, so we do not reimburse customers for damages to property or food spoilage.
Thank you for your response.
Trees are the leading cause of power outages, but cars hitting poles, animals getting into electrical equipment and weather conditions can all have an impact on interruptions to your service.
Thank you for your response.
There are two likely causes. Either your home or business is tied to a different electric circuit/line than your neighbor. Or, there might be a situation only affecting your home/business that requires your attention - such as your circuit breaker or weatherhead.
Thank you for your response.
We are not able to provide priority response to life support/medical equipment members in the restoration process. It’s important that members with special needs make prior arrangements for a back-up power supply. This may mean having a generator or going to a health care facility that has back-up power.
Thank you for your response.
During routine, scheduled tree trimming work, our crews do clean up debris left behind. However, when crews work on damaged trees during storms, they focus on repairs that are critical to restoring power, and do not clean up or remove branches and debris that may be left behind. Contact your local city officials for more information on storm debris disposal.
Thank you for your response.
