NIPSCO Terms and Conditions for Text, Email and Phone Alert Services
Each alert service is offered by Northern Indiana Public Service Company LLC (“NIPSCO”, "Company", “us” or “we”) as a convenience. By enrolling in an alert service, you agree to the following terms and conditions. If you enroll in an alert service over the phone, you provide oral prior express consent to be receive alerts. Separately, you will be sent these terms and conditions via email or U.S. mail and agree to be subject to these terms by any subsequent use of the alert services. These terms and conditions may be modified from to time. Such modification will be posted on this website. If you continue to be enrolled in or use the alert service for 30 days after a new version is posted, you agree to the modified terms and conditions.
By enrolling you agree to receive SMS/texts, and/or calls using an automatic dialer and prerecorded voice, and/or email messages from us that we may send or offer, now or in the future, relating to your utility service and/or account, including service outages in your area, general weather alerts, account information, billing and payment programs, and other information. Message and data rates may apply.
If you are enrolling in the alert service with a phone number, you represent to us that you are the subscriber and/or customary user of the phone number provided, and that you are authorized to agree to receive SMS/texts and/or pre-recorded voice messages at that number. You agree that you will immediately notify NIPSCO by calling us at 1-844-464-7726 if at any time you are no longer the subscriber and/or customary user of the phone number provided or no longer the account holder of the e-mail address you had provided. No support is provided for virtual phone numbers.
Participating Carriers include AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, Verizon Wireless, Boost, Cricket, MetroPCS, U.S. Cellular, Virgin Mobile, ACS Wireless, Appalachian Wireless, Bluegrass Cellular, Carolina West Wireless, Cellcom, C-Spire Wireless (formerly Cellsouth), Cellular One of East Central Illinois, Cincinnati Bell Wireless, Cross (dba Sprocket), Duet IP, Element Mobile, EpicTouch, GCI Communications, Golden State, Hawkeye (Chat Mobility), Hawkeye (NW Missouri Cellular), Illinois Valley Cellular, Immix (Keystone Wireless / PC Management), Inland Cellular, iWireless, Mobi PCS (Coral Wireless LLC), Mosaic, MTPCS / Cellular One (Cellone Nation), Nex-Tech Wireless, nTelos, Panhandle Telecommunications, Peoples Wireless, Pioneer, Plateau, Revol Wireless, Rina - Custer, Rina - All West, Rina - Cambridge Telecom Coop, Rina - Eagle Valley Comm, Rina - Farmers Mutual Telephone Co, Rina - Nucla Nutria Telephone Co, Rina - Silver Star, Rina - South Central Comm, Rina - Syringa, Rina - UBET, Rina - Manti, South Canaan / CellularOne of NEPA, Thumb Cellular, Union Wireless, United, Viaero Wireless, West Central Wireless, Leaco, Nemont/Sagebrush. T-Mobile is not liable for delayed or undelivered messages. You must be in good standing with your mobile carrier service and minutes on prepaid devices will be required to receive requested alert messages. You can opt out of an alert service at any time, by the following reasonable methods set forth below to revoke consent:
SMS/TEXT: (for Bill/Payment Alerts Only):
Opt out through your online account at nipsco.com or through our Customer Care Center at 1-844-464-7726.
SMS/TEXT (for Outage Alerts and Other Alerts):
- Text JOIN to 28608 to enroll in the outage text alert service.
- Text STOP to 28608 to opt out of the outage text alert service at any time.
- Text HELP to 28608 or call us at 1-844-464-7726 for help with texting.
AUTOMATIC DIALER/PRERECORDED VOICE: Opt out through your online account at nipsco.com or through our Customer Care Center at 1-844-464-7726.
EMAIL: Opt out by following the unsubscribe information included in each e-mail, through your online account at nipsco.com or through our Customer Care Center at 1-844-464-7726.
If you have agreed to receive Company messaging (e.g., multiple alert services or messaging in addition to alert services), you will need to take separate and additional actions to opt out of each such Company messaging service and channel. For avoidance of doubt, opting out of an alert service does not preclude the Company from sending any message via SMS/text, automatic dialer and/or pre-recorded voice or email, that is otherwise permitted by law.

NIPSCO alert messages may not be delivered to you if your device is not in range of a transmission site, or if sufficient network capacity is not available at a particular time. Even within a coverage area, factors beyond the control of your communication carrier may interfere with message delivery, including the customer's equipment, terrain, and proximity to buildings, foliage, and weather. By accepting these terms and conditions, you acknowledge that urgent alerts may not be timely received and that NIPSCO and your communications carrier do not guarantee that alerts will be delivered.
ALERT SERVICES ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EITHER EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THE IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, OR NON-INFRINGEMENT. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE EXCLUSION OF IMPLIED WARRANTIES, SO THE ABOVE EXCLUSION MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. THE ACCURACY OF ALERT SERVICES ARE NOT GUARANTEED AND THEY ARE NOT INTENDED TO REPLACE WEATHER REPORTS, GOVERNMENT ISSUED EMERGENCY ANNOUNCEMENTS OR YOUR UTILITY BILL.
YOU AGREE THAT YOU WILL SUBMIT ANY DISPUTE ARISING OUT OF, OR CONNECTED TO, YOUR USE OF ALERT SERVICES EXCLUSIVELY TO BINDING INDIVIDUAL (NON-CLASS) ARBITRATION TO BE ADMINISTERED BY THE AMERICAN ARBITRATION ASSOCIATION (“AAA”). Information about the arbitration process and procedures is available at www.adr.org. If, for any reason, AAA is not available or refuses to hear the case, you may file your case with any national arbitration company. The arbitration shall be governed by the Federal Arbitration Act.
