New Construction Incentive Program

The New Construction Incentive Program is designed to encourage energy efficient new construction of commercial and industrial facilities within NIPSCO service territory.  This program offers financial incentives to encourage building owners, designers and architects to exceed standard building practices and achieve efficiency, above and beyond, the current statewide building code requirements.  The goal of the New Construction Incentive Program is to produce newly constructed and expanded buildings that are among the most efficient in the nation.

Incentives will be calculated based on the estimated reduction in kilowatt hours (kWh) and/or therms from implementation of the energy efficiency project. Energy savings will be determined using the AHSRAE 90.1 2007 standard as a baseline energy usage. Incentives will be paid out at $0.07/kWh below the baseline for lighting projects, $0.10/kWh below the baseline for non-lighting, and $1.00/therm below the gas baseline.

NIPSCO’s commercial, industrial and non-profit energy efficiency programs are administered by Lockheed Martin Energy, a third-party implementation specialist that helps businesses save energy.

What Type of Projects Qualify?

Eligible projects include new building projects wherein no structure or site footprint presently exists, addition or expansion of an existing building, or a gut rehab for a change of purpose requiring replacement of electrical systems/equipment.  Projects require pre-approval before purchasing and installing energy equipment to be incentivized. All Projects must be completed by November 12, 2021 in order to be eligible for incentive.

Who Qualifies?

Eligible customers include those currently billed under NIPSCO electric rates 720, 721, 722, 723, 724, 725, 726, 732, 733, 734, 741 or 744 and natural gas rates 121, 125 and 151 (NIPSCO’s DependaBill rate).  Service for the project site must be active once the project is complete to receive incentive.
