Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) 

Customers falling at or below 60% of the State Median income or within 150 percent of federal poverty guidelines, whichever is higher, may be eligible to receive state and federal utility assistance dollars from the Low Income Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP). The program is implemented through the Community Action Agencies with outreach offices in every county. Applications for heating assistance are taken from November 1, 2018 through May 18, 2019. Summer Cooling assistance will begin in June 2019 if remaining funds are available.

Please note, funding is limited and provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

Required Information for LIHEAP Application

The following information is usually required when applying for LIHEAP at an agency; however, be sure to contact the agency for the complete list of documentation you'll need to provide:

  • Indiana picture ID
  • Social Security cards for all household members
  • NIPSCO bill
  • Proof of residency
  • Proof of income
