Beginning today, NIPSCO will start work to replace and upgrade existing portions of the above ground electric utility pole and line distribution system in the City of LaPorte. System modernization projects offer many benefits to customers including safer and more reliable electric service, as well as supporting future business expansion in northern Indiana.
The majority of this work will take place near the intersection of 5th Street and Colfax Avenue, 2nd Street and Colfax Avenue, Weller Avenue, Pine Lake Avenue and Washington Street. Crews will also be working near road utility easements in this area. As a result of this work, to ensure the safety of local residents and onsite crews, road and lane closures are expected.
Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. CST, and expected to last until June, weather permitting. Hooper Corporation, an approved NIPSCO contractor, will be performing this planned work.
Detour routes and signage will be posted ahead of time. Flaggers will be onsite directing traffic during construction hours. Please exercise extra caution when traveling near marked construction zones. Be sure to slow down and follow the direction of on-site crew members and posted signs, including detour routes.
NIPSCO appreciates the patience of the community during this important system modernization project and will continue to work with City of LaPorte officials to minimize customer impact throughout the duration of this upgrade.
